License to Drink
A President Emeritus of Middlebury College and his student research team form the newly incorporated nonprofit Choose Responsibility—a group working to lower the drinking age for those who pass alcohol education courses. The group advocates for states to issue drinking licenses to people between the ages of 18 and 21 who have successfully completed courses in the responsible purchase, possession, and consumption of alcohol. Students equate the program to drivers’ licensing procedures. "We don't want to be a bunch of people beating our spoons on a highchair saying we want beer," says President Emeritus John M. McCardell, Jr. (in our favorite quote ever).
