Students Promote Climate Change Awareness
Students across the country are rallying for environmental causes. Students at Tulane University organized a weeklong series of events to promote environmental awareness on campus. Events included a pledge drive, panel discussions, rallies, and service opportunities through Habitat for Humanity. Students at American University, the University of Kansas, the University of Michigan, the University of Washington, and Iowa State University marched in rallies for Step It Up’s National Day of Climate Action, while students at the University of Minnesota participated in a rally in support of the Global Warming Day of Action. Students at the University of North Carolina rallied in support of global warming legislation, and students at the University of California Santa Barbara celebrated Earth Day by protesting carbon emissions and promoting recycling. The student group Greening Princeton gave the campus eating clubs gift of boxes of compact fluorescent light bulbs to replace the inefficient incandescent bulbs that many clubs currently use. The gift was part of the Cool Bulbs Initiative, which is co-headed by Greening Princeton and the Princeton Prospect Foundation.
