Furlough days for administrative employees are causing major frustrations for students at California State University in Fresno. Friday Sep. 23 was the fourth administrative furlough so far this semester, closing the financial aid office and the cashier’s window. The lack of these services proved a major inconvenience for students, and was in some cases grievously debilitating.

Many students found that they were unable to complete urgent and time-sensitive paperwork. For example, Freshmen Patricia Diaz needed to make a request for high school grades for a scholarship whose application was due October 1st. Sophomore Carlos Vega found himself without administrative assistance when considering dropping a class on the last available drop day.

It is unclear whether student outcry over these bureaucratic breakdowns will influence the administration’s furlough schedule as the semester rolls on.
