Against Sexual Violence

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Students at Washington University in St. Louis lobbied their Student Union Senate to support a resolution creating an Office for the Prevention of Sexual and Relationship Violence. The office is intended to coordinate prevention and education efforts on campus. Men Against Violence and Rape at the University of Kentucky held an event called “These Hands Don’t Hurt” to raise awareness about violence against women. The members of the group asked fellow men to trace their hands on a banner, making a public commitment not to hurt women. The banner was intended for the UK’s Take Back the Night event, held later in the week. Students at Northeastern University, the University of North Carolina, and the University of Kentucky participated in “Take Back the Night” events, consisting of marches, rallies, and vigils against sexual violence.
