SUNY Binghamton’s Student Association recently used its office fund—which is funded through the student activity fee—to buy a big, flat-panel plasma screen TV for the reception area of their office. Now you’re considering a run for student government, right? Before you get too excited, know that the TV was purchased for the good of the wider community. As the SA President explains about the TV, which is tuned to CNN all day, “I personally like to know what’s going on in the world. I think it’s a very beneficial thing for students to be able to see, if they walk in to check their group’s mail or something, a headline on TV.” A large, flat-screen TV.
