And Now They Wait

Purdue’s student body is awaiting word from its President
after his meeting with the University’s hunger-striking students. Students
participating in the strike, as well as several others engaged in less, um, dramatic tactics (good old fashioned
protests and the like), want the University to sign the Designated Suppliers
Proposal—a document which aims to ensure that University apparel is made in
factories free of human rights abuses. Members of Purdue’s Merchandise,
Licensing and Marketing Policy Committee have recommended declining the
proposal. Meanwhile, some of the hunger strikers have been without food for
almost three weeks—with at least one hospitalization.
