150 students at the University of Vermont gathered to present a petition to the university’s Vice President for Finance and Administration, Richard Crate. The petition, which now has over 1,500 signatures, demands that the university begin withdrawing its investments from defense companies such as Halliburton, General Dynamics, and Lockheed Martin. The petition was organized by Students Against War (SAW) and is the continuation of a campaign started last spring to ensure that UVM’s investments match its mission statement: “To coordinate, shape, and advance the University’s public policy and funding objectives.”
