In June 2007 the Board of Trustees at Antioch University in Yellow Springs, Ohio voted to close the college this spring due to a budget crisis caused by low enrollment and a dwindling endowment that left the school overly dependent on tuition proceeds. The board reached this decision after rejecting several proposals from alumni donors who wished to keep the college alive. In recent weeks over 900 alumni, faculty and staff – coining themselves the Antioch College Action Network – petitioned for the resignation of Antioch University Chancellor Toni Murdock and Board of Trustees Chair Art Zucker. In response, the Antioch University board approved a resolution that will put the future of the college in the hands of its alumni, who are now charged with drafting the plans and raising the resources necessary to save the college. For now, as the college laid off its entire faculty and staff, students currently enrolled will have to complete their degrees at other Antioch branch campuses or at other schools.
