On Friday, Ernest Caleron, President-elect of the Arizona Board of Regents surprised community college leaders by encouraging Arizona’s four year universities to allow students in certain majors to graduate after completing three years at a community college and only one at a four-year campus.
The plan would make attending college far more affordable as students would only have to incur the higher expenses of a four year university for one year. During the first three years students would pay community college tuition, roughly $2,200 per year, rather than university tuition which hovers around $6,800 per year. Currently, Arizona schools require students to complete two years at a four year campus to graduate.
