Asians Consider Identity

At the University of Maryland, more than 100 people met to
discuss the ways different generations of Asian Americans are dealing with the
repercussions of the Virginia Tech tragedy and the end of the model-minority
myth. Some of the topics explored in the discussion were the necessity of
negotiating the “old-world” value of communal responsibility and the
“new-world” philosophy of individual responsibility, and the traditional Asian
resistance to “talk therapy.”
