Birth Control Costs Prohibitive, Potentially Dangerous

A Daily Collegian article takes a look at how the rising cost of birth control is affecting students—and how educators and students are fighting back. The rise in cost is due to the 2005 Deficit Reduction Act, federal legislation that went into effect on January 1. The American College Health Association (ACHA) has expressed concern about the legislation’s potential effect on student health, as the subsidies student health centers received on birth control medications also helped to subsidize the cost of medical procedures like PAP tests.
