Black History Month
The lack of programming for Black History Month at Boston College has some student groups taking matters into their own hands. At least one organization, the Black Student Forum, will be promoting awareness of the month—but other organizations have very little planned. At Rutgers, students are using the opportunity of Black History Month to promote the artistic contributions of African Americans. According to Valerie Valentine, who attended the opening ceremony of the United Black Council’s events, we should remember the black artists who “were the first to sing in normally segregated clubs and introduce new genres of music that brought about black integration into popular culture."
