Brigham Young University Commencement Seeing Changes, Competition

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Brigham Young University will ticket its commencement this year—and cancel its processional—due to heightened security for their speaker, Vice President Dick Cheney. Students will have a maximum of four tickets each due to worries that Cheney will draw too large of a crowd. College Democrats will be protesting the speech outside the venue, while others are trying to gather funds for an alternative commencement speaker. Students for Alternative Commencement are taking donations to get Ralph Nader to speak at the University. So far the students have gotten both the producer and director of This Divided State to help them offer a charity screening of both their movie and the film An Unreasonable Man, a documentary about Nader.
