A Boston University graduate will now owe more than half a million dollars to the recording industry in a closely watched illegal downloading case. Four record labels sued Joel Tenenbaum for downloading and sharing music illegally. The record labels have been attempting to crack down on file sharing for the past few years, issuing threatening letters to students, often with the cooperation of University administrators. Most students settle the matter by paying the record label a few thousand dollars. Tenenbaum’s is the second of thousands of cases of illegally downloaded and shared music filed that the industry plans to bring to court.
