The U.S. dollar still holds a slight edge over Canadian currency, and this value is apparently enticing enough to draw perspective students north. Major Canadian universities, including Dalhousie U in Halifax, McGill U in Montreal and U of Toronto are all reporting increased interest from their southern neighbors. The Boston Globe reported the number of American students studying in Canada has increased 50 percent since 2001, bringing the total to around 9,000 students. Canadian schools are publicly funded and highly subsidized, making the overall cost much cheaper than the average U.S. institution.
