Changes to Financial Aid Applications

Date: 7/1/2009 12:11 am

Education Secretary Anne Duncan announced to the White House Press Corps that the Obama Administration plans to simplify the Federal Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), the standard form used to apply for federal and most other financial aid programs. Many student advocates argue that the form’s long and highly detailed questionnaire is the reason that many eligible college applicants do not apply for financial aid. Proposed changes include an option for married students to skip over the questions concerning parents, allowing for low-income students to skip questions concerning financial assets and allowing the form to pull data from online IRS tax forms.
