The New York Times investigates the growing presence of abstinence groups on Ivy League campuses. The Times profiled several pro-abstinence students who said they felt overwhelmed by the pervasiveness of hook-ups on campus, and formed abstinence groups in an effort to combat the highly sexualized college culture. Some students, however, feel that abstinence groups put too much emphasis on the negative aspects of sex and don’t do enough to stress the positive aspects of celibacy.
