The Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Allied Union at the University of Iowa held its second-ever Queer Prom, the first in eight years.  Student organizers hoped to promote the local gay community and give high school students a good time without judgment. Transgender activists at the University of Michigan hailed the University's decision to allow students to use their preferred name instead of their legal name for almost all University related purposes.
