The recent Deficit Reduction Act, passed by Congress and signed by President Bush, prevents university and college health centers from purchasing prescription birth control at the discounted prices they used to. A number of papers have been reporting on the effects the legislation is having on campuses. For students, the law means paying higher prices for their contraceptives or switching to non-prescription methods—even when they aren’t the best choice.
