Controversy at the University of Iowa
Following the Virginia Tech tragedy and a bomb threat that closed two buildings on campus, the University of Iowa was (understandably) feeling uneasy. But the arrest and public naming of a student who wore a ski mask during class on a cold and rainy day has raised serious questions in the community over the handling of the situation. The administrator who publicly released the student’s name and address and (temporarily) banned him for campus for five months has defended the actions. The Editorial Board of the school paper, however, says the school’s actions were unjustified and the University should publicly apologize to the student involved. In their last meeting of the year, the UI Student Government unanimously passed a resolution calling for a public apology.
