Credit Crunch Affecting Students

Main Street and Wall Street aren’t the only places feeling the effects of the financial crisis. College Avenue is starting to feel the strain of the weakening economy as well – and it’s not all bad. Economics professor Raford D. Boddy of San Diego State is expecting students to be offered far fewer credit cards than in the past, as credit companies tighten their purse strings. “The days when they threw cards at you have passed,” Boddy said. Boddy further predicted that some companies might even have “outright recalls.” This may ultimately prove to be a good thing for students, who are often targets for predatory credit offers and soon find themselves accruing massive debt.
