Dance marathons proved to be the fundraiser of choice for students this week. Students at the University of Kentucky held a dance marathon to benefit the Golden Matrix Fund, which supports the UK Pediatric Oncology Clinic. Last year, the event raised more than $123,000; organizers are hopeful for a similar result this year. The annual dance marathon at Northwestern University raised a record amount of money this year. The dancers raised a total amount of $708,711.20, and the marathon’s primary beneficiary, Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy, received $423,027.68. Medical students at the University of Utah held a date auction last week to benefit Rock the U, a 26.2-hour dance marathon, which will, in turn, benefit the Huntsman Cancer Institute. Finally, Boston University students danced for 18 straight hours, raising $33,000 for pediatric AIDS.
