Students at DePaul University started an online petition—amassing 200 signatures in the first three hours—to reinstate Glen Weissenberger, Dean of the College of Law, after the University dismissed him on June 18. Although Weissenberger will remain on faculty, he was removed as Dean after writing a letter complaining to the American Bar Association (ABA) that DePaul disregarded an agreement requiring that the law school keep 75 percent of its net tuition revenue. Adherence to that agreement is imperative for ABA accreditation. DePaul disputes that this letter was the reason for Weissenberger’s dismissal. The administration argues that the College of Law will keep its revenue and the decision to remove Weissenberger came before the letter was sent to the ABA.
One day after Weissenberger's dismissal students launched an online petition for his reinstatement, and more than 200 faculty, alumni and students signed it within three hours. The petition states that Weissenberger is "an ardent supporter of the student body" and says the university has "always been resistant to Dean Weissenberger's initiatives to improve our law school."
