Akiva Tor, an Israeli consul for the Pacific Northwest region, spoke at San Jose State University last week in what became "more a madhouse than a discussion," according to the SJSU Spartan Daily. Members of the audience heckled Tor as he spoke, shouting “liar!” and interrupting him with larges chants of “what about the blockade?” During the question and answer session, several offered biting critiques of Israel's policy in Gaza and made speeches for the Palestinian cause. The moderator, political science professor Frances Edwards, had difficulty controlling the crowd and eventually ended the event 15 minutes early. Tor's speech covered the Feb. 10 prime minister elections in Israel and the conflict in Gaza. Several student groups collaborated to bring Tor to the university, and pro-Palestinian students distributed handouts before the event. The Daily reported that around half of the 130 attendees supported the Palestinians in the ongoing conflict in Gaza.
