Following news that an MIT administrator was asked to resign over her falsified resume, faculty and staff integrity is the focus of a good deal of student news. At the University of New Mexico, a member of the Academic Freedom and Tenure Committee reportedly resigned over the promotion of a professor with a falsely “inflated” resume. Members of Syracuse University’s academic integrity committee feel that SU’s administration is more receptive to recommendations surrounding student ethics violations than violations by faculty or staff. National experts on academic integrity say student ethics are tied to those of faculty and staff. On the student front, Stanford University has announced it will include more questions about past disciplinary actions—such as misdemeanors, suspensions, or probations—on the school’s application.
