As the U.S. Senate takes up the American Clean Energy and Security Act, a bill to clamp down on global warming pollution, higher education leaders are advocating that the bill help to fund education for a green energy economy. If passed, the bill will create revenue by capping pollution and then allowing polluters to trade rights to produce the remaining emissions. Education leaders are calling for $1 billion of that revenue to be used to fund clean energy education, environmental literacy and sustainability. Recently, college presidents have circulated a letter urging the Senate to spend $1 billion on clean energy education efforts. Over 100 institutions have signed on to the letter, including Oberlin College and Arizona State University. Read a copy of the letter here.
