Facebook Bet Could Cost ASU’s Guard

Shane Kuyper, a guard on Arizona State University’s men’s basketball team, didn’t see any harm in filling out a bracket on Facebook for March Madness—until he realized the club he joined had members wager five dollars into a pool. Although NCAA rules say it is legal for student athletes to fill out brackets, the issue becomes very different once money is involved. Consequences for students found guilty of gambling include ineligibility for college competitions for one year.
