This fall a number of high-profile private universities announced financial aid reforms that will reduce costs of education for middle and lower income families. The reforms will cut tuition costs for middle and lower income families between one third and one half, and will allow more expensive private colleges to compete with tuition fees at state universities. Princeton was the first to institute aid reform in 2001 and now schools including Harvard and Yale are passing similar reforms.
