Florida Toys With Community College System Overhaul

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Recent legislation in Florida has initiated what could be a complete overhaul of the state’s community college system. A pilot program has been launched to allow community colleges to apply to become part of the Florida College System and offer four-year degrees. This new college system will act as a middle tier between state universities and community colleges. If the program is successful, the new system could become permanent as early as the fall of 2009. The new legislation was proposed in response to the increasing need for higher degrees in Florida. Many students in Florida are refused admission to Florida’s state schools due to growing enrollments and the new system would provide increased access to higher degrees.
