Fresno State Stops Taking Applications Three Weeks Early

Date: 1/15/2009 11:16 pm

Fresno State, part of the California State University system, set their original application deadline for February 1, but last week Fresno Admissions announced they stopped accepting applications on January 9. The university reached its target number of applications earlier than expected, due to a reduction in total students they plan to accept. As the state budget deficit crept deeper into the University system’s pocket, Fresno was forced to cap enrollment at 22,100 students for next fall, 500 students less than current enrollment. High school guidance counselors in California received quite a shock when they read the email stating the change. The California State University System put out a statement saying other CSU schools would most likely be following Fresno’s example and shut down application acceptance as they reach their target numbers.
