The Daily Californian, the independent student newspaper at the
University of California Berkeley, ran a four-part series this summer
on rising gas prices and the impact on students. The four installments
detail the ways in which rising gas prices have affected student life
on and off campus. From campus commutes to study abroad programs, fuels
costs have had a significant impact on the academic world. Other
outlets have further reported that rising gas prices have caused a
surge in online courses and local campus enrollment, both of which curb student commutes. Some community colleges are even considering shortening the school week down to 4 days, to save on energy costs.
