In the last couple of years, journalism has faced a number of tough questions about a paper’s obligations to protect the sources for, or subjects of, its articles. But what are your obligations, as a paper, if your article on an obscure and potentially dangerous sport gets an athlete banned from practicing in his home stadium, hmm? If you’ve never heard of Le Parkour (don’t worry—we hadn’t either) it’s the physical practice of moving over or around obstacles in creative and efficient ways. (Some people call that New York City… but what do we know from Le Parkour?). As a result of a picture and article in Indiana University’s paper, Geoff Stewart has been forbidden to practice the sport on campus or an entire year.
