For the fourth year in a row, Mills College’s Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation Department (APER) won the Jostens Community Service Award for their participation in the Cyclone Kickoff, a day spent cleaning and refurbishing Havenscourt Middle School in Oakland, CA. In the fall of 2006 student athletes traveled off campus and spent a day painting hallways, installing bulletin boards, patching holes, remodeling faculty and student lounges, and reorganizing the school library. For their hard work, the students were awarded $1,000 toward the Mills College scholarship fund and the bragging rights to say they beat out 399 other colleges nationwide.
