Illinois Campus Safety Bill

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich signed a bill this week to require college and university campuses throughout the state to plan for and practice responses to all types of emergencies. The Campus Security Enhancement Act, to be enacted January 1, 2009, will make Illinois the first state to require its higher education institutions to create a campus violence prevention committee and campus threat assessment team. Northern Illinois University—where a campus shooting killed six earlier this year—played an integral role in the bill’s formation and passage.
