With the financial crisis affecting the economy, many have predicted a smaller job market for graduating seniors. Not so, according to Jason Eckert, Director of Career Services at the University of Dayton in Ohio. In August, a survey conducted of 146 employers by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) revealed that employers were on pace to hire 6.1 percent more graduates in 2009 than in 2008. Billie Streufert, Director of the Career Development Center at the University of South Dakota, said she strongly urges students to pursue internship opportunities, and that it could make all the difference when applying for employment after graduation. A 2007 survey by NACE reported that responding employers offered full-time positions to nearly two out of three of their interns.
