If the mark of a true leader is the ability to recognize and draw attention to what others miss, then the students in the Leadership Rice program are coming out gangbusters. The nine undergraduates in LEAD 309 decided that Rice University’s custodial staff were under-appreciated and under-recognized, and set out to correct the error. A bilingual survey sent to custodial staff in October drew a more than 90% response rate. (Honestly, can you imagine a student survey generating a 90% response rate from any other department?) Students then distributed biographies and photographs of the custodial staff to each of the dorms.
