The College Democrats at Liberty University reached a compromise with the school’s administration on Monday. The group will be recognized as an unofficial student organization and be allowed to use the University’s name but will not receive any funding. The policy will also apply to the College Republicans who will move from being an official student organization to an unofficial student group under the new policy. The groups are allowed to use school facilities for meetings and guest speakers as long as they make it clear the University doesn't endorse them. If the administration believes either club supports a candidate whose views are at odds with the mission of Liberty University, they will not be able to use school facilities to endorse those candidates.
Liberty University revoked its recognition of the College Democrats in May, arguing that the club’s endorsement of Democratic pro-choice candidates who favored gay marriage was contrary to Liberty’s values and student organization policies.
