March Against Darfur Ties

Date: 11/17/2008 05:28 pm

More than 75 students marched to Northwestern University President Henry Bienen’s office in protest of University investments in businesses operating within the Sudan. The conflict in the Darfur region has been classified as a genocide, having claimed more than 200,000 lives since 2003. It is currently illegal for U.S. companies to do business there. Bienen says the situation is more complicated than presented, and any business ties to the region are indirect. In other Darfur news, students at the University of Delaware joined professors and local residents in a vigil for the victims of Darfur.
