Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley recently announced that tuition for in-state students will remain frozen at the current rate of $6,566 for the third year in a row. Maryland’s freeze on tuition stands in contrast to states across the country where students have seen increases of up to 40% over the past three years. Last fall, Maryland lawmakers passed a $1.4 billion tax increase that includes a 1.25% increase in the corporate tax rate with half of the revenue from the tax increase invested into higher education. Out-of-state tuition will be increased by 4%, up to $21,637 per year.
