The University of North Carolina’s chapter of PharmFree, an organization of the American Medical Student Association, is working to eliminate the presence of pharmaceutical companies from doctors' offices. The medical students hope that by eliminating the presence of the drug names found on the pens, clocks, and other free equipment that pharmaceuticals frequently give away, their influence on doctors will end. Earlier this year UNC PharmFree urged the School of Medicine to join nearly 40 other medical schools in creating a protocol for how to handle drug companies, and now the School of Medicine is drafting an official policy.
