Editors of the newspaper at Montclair State University in New Jersey apologized last week for running a cartoon with a partially obstructed racial slur in reference to Senator Barack Obama. The cartoon is syndicated and nationally distributed to subscribers of MCT Campus, a service that provides graphics, puzzles and cartoons ready for print. The cartoon series, the K Chronicles, is produced by award winning African-American cartoonist Keith Knight who is known to confront racial issues in his comics. Thus far he has failed to comment on the issues raised with his cartoon’s publication in The Montclarion.
