North Carolina’s Community College System recently declared it will no longer admit undocumented immigrants. The system made the decision after receiving an advisory letter from the state Attorney General’s Office recommending that North Carolina’s public higher education institutions reverse policies allowing the admittance of undocumented students. Previously, the system required all its schools to admit any student that completed high school – including those without documentation. The other schools in North Carolina’s higher education system have so far not followed the community college’s lead and have even challenged the Attorney General’s decision. The Department of Homeland Security has ruled that the choice is up to individual schools.
