New Jersey Democratic Governor Jon S. Corzine recently issued a proposal to address New Jersey's fiscal crisis. The state has recently been forced to make significant cuts in spending, particularly in higher education, but still has the second highest income tax rate in the entire country. Gov. Corzine’s plan woud raise state funds through large increases in tolls on the New Jersey Turnpike and Garden State Parkway. Last week former Republican Congressman Bob Franks spoke to an audience of students and faculty at Rutgers University and expressed his support for Corzine’s plan. Students who attended were pleasantly surprised by the level of support and cooperation across partisan lines, and hold high hopes for New Jersey’s fiscal future. Read more from Rutgers |
