After being expelled last March from the University of Louisville nursing program for a blog post about an experience in the delivery room, a federal judge ordered the school to reinstate Nina Yoder. Yoder, who had been assigned to follow an expectant mother through the pregnancy process, posted an account of the birth on her MySpace page. The post described the event, the baby and included details about the procedures the mother had and the baby’s appearance. While the judge described the post as “crass and uncouth,” he held that it didn’t violate nursing program’s confidentiality policies and cannot be regarded as a violation of professionalism. Administrators at the school felt differently in March, arguing that Yoder violated patient confidentiality by stating the date of birth, number of children the patient had, the use of an epidural and family reactions in the post.
