Last Wednesday at 8pm at New York University approximately 80 students in the group Take Back NYU barricaded themselves inside NYU’s Kimmel Hall dining facility touting a thirteen-point list of demands. Their demands included everything from the complete disclosure of the university’s investments and subsequent divestment from “war profiteering” companies to the formation of a graduate student teachers’ union and the opening of Bobst library to the public. The protest ended Friday afternoon with the remaining four protestors being physically removed from the building. The eighteen students who remained in the building Friday morning — after the administration’s deadline for amnesty — have all been temporarily suspended and are facing judicial hearings this week. TBNYU members are hailing their feat as a demonstration of democracy and a partial success, even though the administration met none of the group’s demands.
