Last Tuesday Republican candidate John McCain clinched the Republican nomination as College Republicans at Ohio University – and across the country – rallied behind their candidate. The students expressed optimism about the upcoming election, citing the advantage of having a Republican party unified early on, particularly alongside the increasingly competitive Democratic race for the nomination. In Democratic news, Hillary Clinton staged a major comeback, securing much-needed wins in Texas and Ohio, effectively ending Barack Obama’s winning streak. While Clinton’s wins did little to thwart Obama’s delegate lead, she secured major votes from Hispanics and white women – two demographics she had been pursuing heavily over the past months. It seems the race for the democratic nominee is far from over.
