Out of the Closet
The first gay fraternity at NYU was granted chapter status earlier last month, with the president of the Inter Greek Council saying it was a natural step for a school with a diverse student body. Barnard Mujeres, a women's group supporting Columbia University’s women, held a panel entitled “The Contemporary Lives of Queer Latinas,” which allowed panelists (including one student) to discuss coming to terms with their identities and their backgrounds. Washington University’s Jewish sexual-spectrum student group, Keshet, hosted a conference of the Jewish National Union of Jewish LGBTQIA (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Allies) Students. The conference provided opportunities for students to network, discuss issues of the gay and lesbian community, and celebrate the Sabbath together.
