Colleges and Universities across the country are holding events to promote peace, tolerance, and awareness of the Middle East and Islam. At Florida State the Arab Cultural Association, Middle East Peace Association, and the Middle East Center have organized Middle East Peace Month during the month of February. Middle East Peace Month will consist of a series of events to raise awareness and promote cross-cultural understanding. The University of Illinois-Champagne recently held its annual Islam Awareness Week, organized by the Muslim Student Association. The week featured guest speakers, and interactive games in the hopes of spreading understanding of Islam. Last spring the University of Washington created the Ahmadiyya Muslim Student Association in an effort to unite Ahmadiyya Muslims in Seattle and within the university, and to educate community members about Islam. The group is currently working on building support within the campus and surrounding communities.
