Students at Philadelphia’s Temple University are protesting a proposed 45 percent tuition hike. The University may lose funding after the administration decided to close the Northeastern Hospital. The state is accusing the University of closing the hospital because its poor clients are making the hospital unprofitable. In response, the state is threatening to block of the $175 million it owes in funds to the university. If the university loses its $175 million in funding from the Commonwealth Appropriations, tuition fees will rise by $5000 for students.
