Power Shift 2009

Date: 3/4/2009 4:28 pm

12,000 students descended on Washington D.C. this past weekend for the second annual Power Shift conference, organized by the Energy Action Coalition. The conference’s goal was to strategize and train students how to push legislators to pass comprehensive energy and global warming legislation. Beginning on Friday, students attended workshops, listened to speakers and networked with fellow activists in order to train and prepare for the Lobby Day on Monday March 2. Monday’s lobby day brought over 5,000 conference attendees to the Hill to lobby their respective representatives inside while staging a massive rally outside. Also on Monday Power Shift students joined up with “Capital Climate Action” protestors to encircle the coal powered Capital Power Plant, which heats the hill, congressional offices and the Supreme Court building, disrupting its operations for the day.
